Softball Recap: Arleta Mustangs vs. Chavez Eagles
Arleta extended their losing streak to nine on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 9-14 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Chavez Eagles. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by just one run.
OLIVIA FIGUEROA put in work while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched. FIGUEROA was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, BRYGETTE RAYGOZA made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. JUSTINE MEJIA was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
As for Chavez, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-12. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch.
On Chavez's side, Jessica Ramos and Alyssa Anaya did most of the damage at the plate: Ramos got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI, while Anaya went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Anaya has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Vida Gomez, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Arleta will head out to take on Verdugo Hills at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs are facing the Dons at the right time seeing as the Dons are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Chavez, they will venture away from home to face off against Poly at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
