Baseball Recap: San Gorgonio Comes Up Short

San Gorgonio had lost five straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 2-11 to make it six. They lost 8-2 to the Eisenhower Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, with their most recent defeat being a 4-3 loss on Wednesday.

San Gorgonio saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andy Contreras, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Contreras has hit this season. Jordan Sanchez was another, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Eisenhower, the win got them back to even at 8-8. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23, 2024 (when they won 7-0).

On Eisenhower's side, Eric Gutierrez and Frank Ruiz dominated on the mound. Gutierrez pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Ruiz tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Eisenhower is 2-1 when Gutierrez allows two or fewer hits, but 6-7 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emilio Villalpando, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was John Wood, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run.

San Gorgonio has already played their next match, a 7-4 victory against Indian Springs on the 12th. As for Eisenhower, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-5 win against Carter on the 14th.
