The East Lyme Vikings will venture away from home to challenge the Coventry Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. East Lyme is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
East Lyme is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest defeat since May 11, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Stonington by a score of 5-3. The game marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Aidan Cochrane was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Garrison Biggs was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Cooper Siragusa also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Coventry came tearing into Wednesday's match with 13 straight wins dating back to last season (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Panthers as they made off with an 11-1 win.
Mather Spear was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Collin Harrington was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while going 2-for-3.
Coventry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Windsor only posted a batting average of .167.
Having lost for the first time this season, East Lyme fell to 4-1. As for Coventry, their victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.
East Lyme was able to grind out a solid win over Coventry when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
