Football Game Preview: Douglas Trojans vs. Dayton Pirates

The Douglas Trojans are taking a road trip to face off against the Dayton Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Dayton will be up against a hot Douglas team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 35-14 margin over Brookings-Harbor on Friday. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Trojans just coasted through the last quarter.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Douglas to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ryder Sawyer, who threw for 255 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 72 yards. Sawyer has become a key player for the Trojans: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Douglas' leading receiver Reese Willis was Sawyer's top target yet again, picking up 130 receiving yards and three scores.

Meanwhile, Dayton blew past Amity, posting a 42-8 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Pirates' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon football rankings (they are ranked 47th, while the Warriors are ranked 129th).

The critical scores for Dayton came from Bryce Wilson, Stephen Macias, Makoy Fleeman, Ryan Mullins, Taylr Miller, and Kolby Wofford.

Dayton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Nate Coburn and Mullins.

Dayton's record now sits at 9-0. As for Douglas, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Douglas has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 154.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Dayton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 230.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
