Basketball Recap: Andrew Nimri's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pacific Grove over Half Moon Bay

Pacific Grove and Half Moon Bay squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Pacific Grove had to settle for second. They took a 66-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Half Moon Bay Cougars. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (56), the Breakers still had to take the loss.

Pacific Grove's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andrew Nimri, who on his way to 22 points. That was a full 37.3% of Pacific Grove's points, marking the third time in a row Nimri has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Valencia, who to rack up 18 points and five boards.

Pacific Grove's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-13. As for Half Moon Bay, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.

Pacific Grove does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Half Moon Bay, they will square off against Carmel at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Carmel will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Half Moon Bay surely won't give up without a fight.
