Baseball Game Preview: Springville Tigers vs. Hueytown Golden Gophers

The Springville Tigers will head out to take on the Hueytown Golden Gophers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Springville's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over Hayden. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

Jake Conner was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Jones, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hueytown). They blew past Bessemer City 19-0 on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Golden Gophers with their most commanding win of the season.

Caleb Chapman was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Chapman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

Hueytown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .704. The last time their OBP was this high was since the start of last season.

Springville pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Hueytown, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.

Springville skirted past Hueytown 2-0 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Springville since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
