West Florence has gone 9-1 against Sumter recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. West Florence will venture away from home to take on Sumter at 5:00 p.m. West Florence is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
West Florence had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Darlington on Wednesday. West Florence blew past Darlington 14-3. The Knights have beaten the Falcons the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Falcons has come to flipping the script.
Annie Ruth Eliason made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, West Florence got a great performance from Jayde Perugini as she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk).
Back at the plate, Ashlyn Dasiy and Anniston Kirshy did most of the damage at the plate: Dasiy scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Kirshy went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Dasiy has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kaylin Davis, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-1.
West Florence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Darlington only posted a batting average of .217.
Meanwhile, Sumter didn't have quite enough to beat West Florence on Tuesday and fell 2-1. The Gamecocks have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Sumter saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ariana Evans, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
West Florence's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Sumter, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5-1.
Sumter's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Florence hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. It's a different story for Sumter, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain West Florence's hitters?
West Florence skirted past Sumter 2-1 when the teams last played on Tuesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Florence since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
