Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Gabby Brubaker and Olivia Kisser Lead Menendez to Victory + How To Watch

Menendez waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Matanzas Pirates. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-1 on September 2nd.

Menendez took Matanzas into a fifth set where they got it done with a six-point win. The final score came out to 29-27, 25-20, 19-25, 22-25, 15-9.

Menendez was led to victory by Olivia Kisser and Gabby Brubaker. Kisser had eight digs and eight aces, while Brubaker had four digs and three aces. Those eight aces gave Kisser a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Catherine Guernon, who had 12 digs and one assist.

They weren't the only good server: Menendez was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 24 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces every time they've taken the court this season.

Matanzas' loss came despite strong showings from Olivia Chochev and Aliya Lugo-Navas. Chochev had 11 digs and three aces, while Lugo-Navas had 17 digs and four aces. Lugo-Navas has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more digs the last three times she's played.

Menendez's record now sits at 7-3. As for Matanzas, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-3.

Menendez has already played their next contest, a 3-2 loss against St. Augustine on the 23rd. As for Matanzas, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-2 win against Flagler Palm Coast on the 23rd.
