Basketball Recap: Carbondale Comes Up Short

Carbondale was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 69-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mt. Vernon Rams. While losing is never fun, the Terriers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 206th, while the Rams are ranked 23rd).

Mt. Vernon had a senior duo take command as Melaina Zedalis went 11 of 19 en route to 34 points in addition to five boards and four steals and Kamaree Pollard went 9 for 14 on her way to 24 points. The contest was Pollard's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Laniyah Shelby, who posted six points.

Carbondale's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Mt. Vernon, their win bumped their record up to 16-3.

Carbondale wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 74-24 victory against Cairo on the 20th. Mt. Vernon has also already played their next game, a 65-25 win against Central on the 20th.
