Softball Recap: Troy Comes Up Short

Troy had lost eight straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 0-13 to make it nine. They lost 14-0 to the Sunny Hills Lancers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 7-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Sunny Hills, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-10-1. The game marked their most dominant win of the season.

For Sunny Hills' part, Sammy Apolinar and Jackie Kim were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Apolinar struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Kim pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At the plate, Apolinar went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI, while Kim got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Kim has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Samaya Holguin was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. Elayna Marquez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
