Basketball Recap: Chesapeake Comes Up Short

Chesapeake was the 69-65 winner over Fairland when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Chesapeake Panthers took a 55-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fairland Dragons. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Dragons are ranked 28th).

It was another big night for Brody Buchanan, who went 11 of 22 on his way to 30 points for Fairland. Another player making a difference was Cliff Fransen, who posted 12 points and eight boards.

Chesapeake's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 11-1 and their overall record down to 18-2. As for Fairland, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-1.

Looking ahead, Chesapeake will face off against Ironton at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Fairland, they and South Webster will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. South Webster will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Fairland surely won't give up without a fight.
