Baseball Recap: Bishop's Comes Up Short

Bishop extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 12-14. They lost 8-0 to the Maranatha Christian Eagles. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Knights were not able to get on the board.

Bishop's got a good showing from Henley Willingham, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Willingham has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in four consecutive appearances.

As for Maranatha Christian, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games.

On Maranatha Christian's side, Bishop's batters probably weren't too happy with James Pace, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 11 Ks (he gave up two walks). Pace also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Eagles are 6-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 8-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Maranatha Christian let Caleb Kennedy and Holton Heinrichs run wild. Kennedy went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run, while Heinrichs went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Kennedy a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Browne, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop's will venture away from home to challenge Point Loma at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Maranatha Christian, they will head out to face off against Classical Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
