League recap: Caruthers receives boost in rankings after winning week

West Sequoia league recap: 5/29/12

Caruthers went from 735 to 696 in the California state rankings since last week after going 1-1 in the past seven days.

Fowler currently sits at the top of West Sequoia with a mark of 21-10 overall and 8-0 in the league. The Blue Raiders are in second place, two games behind with a 6-2 record in league play.

The Redcats boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks. On the season, Fowler has allowed just 152 hits, while striking out 135 batters. Matt Morales leads Fowler with 45 strikeouts in 47 innings pitched.

The Redcats sprayed a league-best 194 hits this week, but still trail Caruthers, which holds the season lead in base knocks with 212. Matthew Nunes has a team-best 28 hits this year, and Fowler went 0-1 this week.
