Baseball Recap: Cienega Now 6-1 over Last Seven Games

Cienega hadn't done well against Nogales recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Bobcats never let the Apaches get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. Considering the Bobcats have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to LUTE CHAVEZ's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on ANTHONY MONTEZ, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Cienega is undefeated when MONTEZ posts two or more runs, but 7-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of ANDREW ROMO, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Cienega always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Cienega is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Nogales, they moved to 14-8-1 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cienega will host Desert View at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bobcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jaguars have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. As for Nogales, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Pueblo at 6:00 p.m. The Apaches are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
