Basketball Recap: Abi Spargo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dundy County-Stratton over Dorchester

Dundy County-Stratton easily dispatched Hitchcock County last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Dundy County-Stratton Tigers fell just short of the Dorchester Longhorns by a score of 46-44 on Friday.

Dundy County-Stratton's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abi Spargo, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Spargo a new career-high in field goal percentage (75%). Clara Spargo was another key player, going 5-for-9 on her way to 11 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Dundy County-Stratton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in 17 consecutive matchups.

Dundy County-Stratton's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 16-7. As for Dorchester, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-2.

Dundy County-Stratton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Dorchester, they will face off against Silver Lake at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday. Silver Lake will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Dorchester surely won't give up without a fight.
