Basketball Recap: Mason Mitchell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Murray over Judge Memorial Catholic

Murray was the 73-61 winner over Judge Memorial Catholic when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Spartans took a 71-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs on Tuesday. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Murray lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Mason Mitchell, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 18 points and six boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Roman Israyelyan, who shot 47% from the field en route to 18 points.

Judge Memorial Catholic was led to victory by Aymen Ismail and Kalou Ruot. Ismail went 12-for-23 on his way to 29 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, while Ruot dropped a double-double with 21 points and 16 boards. Those 29 points gave Ismail a new career-high. John Anderson was another key player, putting up eight points.

Murray's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Judge Memorial Catholic, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Looking ahead, Murray will challenge Jordan at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Judge Memorial Catholic has already played their next contest (against Juan Diego Catholic), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
