Softball Game Preview: St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins vs. De Anza Dons

The St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins are taking a road trip to take on the De Anza Dons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

St. Patrick-St. Vincent easily dispatched Bethel on Saturday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Bruins fell just short of Albany by a score of 9-7 on Monday. The loss continues a trend for the Bruins in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost three in a row.

Taylor Etchieson put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Christina Thomsen was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, De Anza was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Saint Mary's.

De Anza saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riana Everetts, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. Maria Uriarte also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

St. Patrick-St. Vincent's record is now 1-12. As for De Anza, their record now sits at 1-8.

St. Patrick-St. Vincent suffered a grim 23-4 defeat to De Anza in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Bruins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
