Basketball Recap: McKinley Comes Up Short

McKinley lost against Springfield back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The McKinley Trojans were outmatched by the Springfield Tigers and fell 50-13. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 749th, while the Tigers are ranked 314th).

Springfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kristina Vecchione, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Those four steals gave Vecchione a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maren Vinkler, who posted eight points in addition to ten boards and four steals.

McKinley dropped their record down to 4-12 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Springfield, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 13-7.

McKinley will host East Tech at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Springfield, they will square off against Mineral Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Mineral Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.4 points per game this season.
