Recap: St. Andrew's Lions vs. May River Sharks
The St. Andrew's Lions suffered their biggest loss since December 8, 2023 on Saturday. Their rough 48-27 defeat to May River might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, St. Andrew's can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 448th in Georgia, while May River is ranked 93rd in South Carolina).
St. Andrew's loss came despite strong showings from Claire Fleming and Gray Holmes. Fleming scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and two steals, while Holmes scored four points.
St. Andrew's struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
May River was led to victory by Nia Taylor and Brooke Dalton. Taylor scored 15 points along with two steals, while Dalton scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Dalton scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Ashleigh Williams, who scored seven points along with two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for St. Andrew's and nudges their season record down to 5-11. As for May River, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.
St. Andrew's and Bulloch Academy will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Bulloch Academy will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for May River, they will head out on the road to challenge Colleton County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Colleton County is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
