Softball Recap: Crockett County Extends Winning Streak to Six

Crockett County had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They came out on top against the South Gibson Hornets by a score of 7-2. For the Cavaliers, this counts as revenge for the 7-4 victory the Hornets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Anna Stallings spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Wesley Thornton and Hannah Carter did most of the damage at the plate: Thornton scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Carter scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Thornton is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Gabby Bursey, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Crockett County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.

Crockett County's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for South Gibson, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 10-4 record.

Coming up, Crockett County will venture away from home to face off against Dyer County at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for South Gibson, they will welcome Westview at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
