Baseball Recap: Russell Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

While Russell didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-22-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Morgan County Cougars 12-2 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won eight contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Jayden Frasure was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Frasure was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyle Mokas, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Hayden McGuire was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.

Russell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.

Russell pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Morgan County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Russell will venture away from home to take on Fleming County at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Morgan County, they will head out to face off against Raceland at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
