Softball Game Preview: Two Rivers Warriors vs. Mahtomedi Zephyrs

The Two Rivers Warriors will venture away from home to take on the Mahtomedi Zephyrs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Two Rivers is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

Two Rivers barely beat Simley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Warriors put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 15-4 victory on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Mazzy Stevens made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Kaylee Rall was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Kira Parker was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Two Rivers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Mahtomedi was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 6-0 to Hill-Murray. The match marked the first time this season in which the Zephyrs were not able to get on the board.

Mahtomedi's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Two Rivers, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-3.

Everything went Two Rivers' way against Mahtomedi in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Two Rivers made off with a 12-5 victory. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Zephyrs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
