Baseball Recap: Fort Morgan Comes Up Short

Fort Morgan extended their losing streak to six on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 5-9 in the process. They came up short against the Valley Vikings, falling 19-10. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vikings earlier this season, when they won 10-5.

JJ Marquez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off four hits.

At the plate, Angel Lopez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Chisum, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

As for Valley, they now have a winning record of 8-7. Considering they have won five contests by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Valley's side, the team relied heavily on Andrew Renken, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Renken has become a key player for the Vikings: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-7 otherwise. Seth Kissler was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fort Morgan will host Platte Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Broncos have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Valley, they will face off against Eaton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
