Softball Recap: Laurel Hill Comes Up Short

Laurel Hill had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 5-11 to make it four. They lost 19-3 to the Bethlehem Wildcats. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Laurel Hill saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mayley Loftus, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Andrea Barnhill also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

As for Bethlehem, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games.

On Bethlehem's side, Eden Woods looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kale Cauley, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sydney Purvee, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coming up, Laurel Hill will be playing at home against Booker T. Washington at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hoboes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Bethlehem, they are taking a road trip to challenge Graceville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
