No. 16 White Station makes statement at Lighthouse Classic

CORINTH, Miss. – The inaugural Lighthouse Thanksgiving Classic proved it has staying power. No. 16 White Station (Memphis, Tenn.) proved it is ready to face a tough road in the coming days.

The Spartans dominated previously unbeaten DeSoto (Texas), 64-33, Saturday night close the two-day event at Corinth High School.

"We all can do everything on the floor," Illinois power forward signee LeRon Black said. "Our guards can get up and rebound. The bigs, we can step outside, just a very versatile team."

Black scored 17 points. Point guard Chris Chiozza (Florida) had 12. Davell Roby (Saint Louis) added 10.



DeSoto cut a 30-16 halftime lead to nine on Julian Miranda's 3-pointer, but Black's slam in traffic put it back to 10. A Chiozza steal led to another Black dunk before Roby's 3-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer extended the lead to 42-26.

It gets no easier for the Spartans (3-0) with games coming up against rival Ridgeway (Memphis), No. 7 Prime Prep (Dallas) at the Marshall County Hoopfest, then to Hawaii for the Iolani Classic to close the year. In January, the storied Memphis program plays in the Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions before a date with No. 20 Sunrise Christian Academy (Bel Aire, Kan.) at the Penny Hardaway Hoopfest.

"That's the way it is. It's fun," White Station coach Jesus Patino said.

Terry Maston, a Baylor signee, had a team-high 11 for DeSoto (8-1).

Corinth (Miss.) 62, Moss Point (Miss.) 56 OT

Moss Point guard Devin Booker, a Kentucky signee and the top senior in Mississippi, scored 17 points, but Corinth junior guard Kendall Stafford drew the attention with 15 points. Stafford missed all of last season with a torn ACL from football.



Booker had another 23 points in a Saturday loss against Southwind, Tenn.

Biggersville (Corinth, Miss.) 73, Mt. Pleasant (Tenn.) 67

Biggersville guard Daniel Simmons, who has an offer from Middle Tennessee State, scored a game-high 24 points. The defending Class 1A champ Lions (6-1) got another 24 from point guard Jaylon Gaines.

Wenonah (Birmingham, Ala.) 68, Madison Prep Academy (Baton Rouge, La.) 53

Prep flirted with the upset, but the three-time defending Alabama state champions got 23 points from quick point guard Justin Coleman, an Alabama signee.

Brandon Sampson, Louisiana's top junior, scored 22 points. Sampson had a team-high 11 in a loss Friday to DeSoto. His offers include Alabama, Baylor, Louisville, LSU and Vanderbilt.
