Softball Recap: Ponaganset Starts Season with Victory Against Toll Gate

Ponaganset had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Toll Gate Titans on Tuesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Chieftains, who have now won seven matchups in a row dating back to last season.

Ava DiFiore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maia Salvo, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Mia Duncan, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Toll Gate is on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Ponaganset and Toll Gate will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Chieftains will challenge rival Moses Brown at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Toll Gate is set to square off against their familiar foe Barrington at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
