Basketball Recap: Deering Comes Up Short

Deering lost against Westbrook back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Deering Rams took a 48-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Westbrook Blue Blazes. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Leading Westbrook to victory were Kylie Young and Lyla Dunphe. Young posted four points along with seven rebounds, seven steals, and six assists, while Dunphe scored eight points in addition to five boards and five steals. That's the most steals Dunphe has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Bolden, who had ten points.

Deering's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Westbrook, they moved to 10-11 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Deering and Westbrook could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Maine Rankings. Deering will take on Windham at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday down 66 places (99 vs. 33). Meanwhile, Westbrook (ranked 59th) will meet Oxford Hills (ranked fifth) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
