Football Game Preview: L.C. Bird Skyhawks vs. James River Midlothian Rapids

L.C. Bird has gone 8-2 against James River Midlothian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Skyhawks will welcome the Rapids at 7:00 p.m. James River Midlothian took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on L.C. Bird, who comes in off a win.

L.C. Bird's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Friday. They blew past Cosby 21-0. The Skyhawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 21 points or more this season.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Tyrell Allen and Thomas Delbridge. Allen rushed for 103 yards and a pair of scores while Delbridge rushed for 115 yards. L.C. Bird is undefeated when Allen posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 1-4 otherwise.

L.C. Bird didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Jaylen Tyler led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for James River Midlothian's offense. They had to suffer through a 54-0 loss at the hands of Huguenot. While losing is never fun, the Rapids can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Falcons are ranked 15th).

L.C. Bird now has a winning record of 5-4. As for James River Midlothian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Everything came up roses for L.C. Bird against James River Midlothian in their previous meeting back in August of 2024, as the squad secured a 31-0 win. Will the Skyhawks repeat their success, or do the Rapids have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
