Preview: Lugoff-Elgin Demons vs. South Florence Bruins
The Lugoff-Elgin Demons will head out on the road to face off against the South Florence Bruins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lugoff-Elgin has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while South Florence will arrive with 25 straight victories.
Lugoff-Elgin fell victim to Irmo's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Yellowjackets 49-0. While losing is never fun, Lugoff-Elgin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 140th, while Irmo is ranked fourth).
Meanwhile, South Florence stacked a eighth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They claimed a resounding 38-0 victory over West Florence on the road. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point South Florence had established a 31 point advantage.
Lugoff-Elgin's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 8.8 points per game. As for South Florence, their win bumped their record up to 10-0.
Lugoff-Elgin came up short against South Florence in their previous matchup back in November of 2020, falling 35-27. Can Lugoff-Elgin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
