Basketball Recap: Jacob Samontina Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat North

Glendale proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 23) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the North Saxons 56-53. This was payback for the Nitros, who suffered a 57-37 loss the last time these two teams met.

Glendale's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Samontina, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Roman Ramirez, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 15 points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Glendale smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Glendale is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.9 points per game. As for North, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.

Glendale will square off against Arcadia at 6:45 p.m. on January 7, 2025. North and Manual Arts will round out the year against one another at at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Manual Arts knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully North likes a good challenge.
