Baseball Game Preview: Zionsville Eagles vs. Avon Orioles

For the second straight game, Zionsville will face off against Avon. The Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Orioles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Zionsville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Zionsville barely beat Avon the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Orioles on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Orioles: they've now won four in a row.

Brady Shaw tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tyler Hughes was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Jackson Tielker was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Zionsville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Avon only posted a batting average of .043.

Zionsville's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Avon, their loss dropped their record down to 16-8.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Zionsville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Avon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts.
