Preview: Notre Dame Catholic Lancers vs. Kolbe-Cathedral Cougars
Notre Dame Catholic has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Kolbe-Cathedral Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Notre Dame Catholic had just enough and edged Joel Barlow out 41-38. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Notre Dame Catholic has posted against Joel Barlow since January 19, 2016.
It was another big night for Madison Gibbs, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Niah Africot, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Kolbe-Cathedral faced Pomperaug in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Kolbe-Cathedral secured a 65-60 W over Pomperaug on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for Kolbe-Cathedral who now have six in a row.
Notre Dame Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-13 record this season. As for Kolbe-Cathedral, they pushed their record up to 13-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Notre Dame Catholic strolled past Kolbe-Cathedral in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a score of 62-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Notre Dame Catholic since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
