Baseball Recap: Bushnell-Prairie City Comes Up Short

Bushnell-Prairie City extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 32 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-31 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Peoria Heights Patriots. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Peoria Heights, with the win, they broke their 15-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-17. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 9, 2024.

For Peoria Heights' part, the team relied heavily on Cameron Ahart, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Ahart is becoming a predictor of the Patriots' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 0-16 when he doesn't). Brody Jones also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Bushnell-Prairie City has already played their next match (against Knoxville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Peoria Heights, they will head out on the road to square off against Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Rockets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Patriots' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
