Yucaipa comes up short despite Malik Young's dominant performance

The Yucaipa Thunderbirds's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They lost to Redlands East Valley at home by a decisive 75-56 margin. Yucaipa has struggled against Redlands East Valley recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Yucaipa still got an impressive performance from Malik Young, who scored 22 points. The matchup was Young's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tristan Doty, who scored 12 points.

Jeremiah Ivens continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Redlands East Valley, scoring 21 points along with nine steals and eight rebounds. Those nine steals set a new season-high mark for him. Darrell Green was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with five assists.

Yucaipa's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Redlands East Valley, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-7.

Yucaipa won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Santiago at 5:00 p.m. on January 6th. As for Redlands East Valley, they will be playing at home against Beaumont at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Beaumont is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road.
