Football Recap: Valley Christian Eagles vs. Superior Bobcats
Valley Christian took care of business in their home opener on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 35-20 victory over the Superior Bobcats. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Daniel Stolzfus was a one-man wrecking crew for Valley Christian as he threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.3 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown. Nick Karvandi also helped out with an impressive 124 receiving yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Valley Christian's defense and their four sacks. Leading the way was Oliver Gebhard and his two. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up two sacks and making five total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Valley Christian was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 506 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Superior only gained 360.
Despite the loss, Superior saw an underclassman step up: Landon Richards threw for 175 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes, and also rushed for 49 yards. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards. Gannon Quinlan was Richards' top target, picking up 82 receiving yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 49 yards.
Valley Christian will take on Arlee at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Superior, they will look to take advantage of their home-field for the first time this season as they take on Troy on Friday.
