Volleyball Recap: Albuquerque Academy Chargers vs. St. Pius X Sartans
Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Albuquerque Academy couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They came up short against the St. Pius X Sartans on Saturday, falling 3-0. The Chargers haven't had much luck with the Sartans recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Kiara Brown paced Albuquerque Academy's offense, picking up 18 kills. Brown got some help from Yalee Jewell and her 27 assists. Finally, Kate Lenhart kept Albuquerque Academy's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.
St. Pius X's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maya Perea, who had 17 digs and six assists. Perea has been hot recently, having posted ten or more digs the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliyah Lucero, who had 11 digs.
Albuquerque Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 21-8. As for St. Pius X, the victory (which was their 19th in a row) raised their record to 24-3.
As of now, neither Albuquerque Academy nor the Sartans have any future games scheduled.
