Football Game Preview: Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans vs. Riverview Academy of Math and Science Barracudas

The Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Riverview Academy of Math and Science Barracudas at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Winthrop College Prep Academy is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.

Winthrop College Prep Academy's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Cristo Rey Tampa 32-0. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Spartans just coasted through the last quarter.

Winthrop College Prep Academy found their leader in freshman Maya Degreenia, who rushed for 46 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 29 yards and one touchdown.

Winthrop College Prep Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Niyayla Washington and Noelle Atienza. Washington got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Riverview Academy of Math and Science unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a blow against Bell Creek Academy on Wednesday, falling 60-0.

Winthrop College Prep Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 2.0 points on average over those games. As for Riverview Academy of Math and Science, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
