Volleyball Recap: Emerald Vikings vs. Woodruff Wolverines
Emerald was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 2-0 to the Woodruff Wolverines. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolverines apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2023.
Emerald was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-22.
Woodruff's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ruthie Sheffield, who had 12 digs and one assist. Sheffield has been hot, having posted 11 or more digs the last eight times she's played. Jaylen Means was another key player, getting eight digs.
Emerald's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Woodruff, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-2.
Coincidentally, Emerald and Woodruff will both be playing Greenwood Christian the next time they take the court. The Wolverines will head out to face the Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Vikings will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
