Dorman prepares to host a special TOC 2016-17 ceremony where the girls volleyball team will be nationally recognized by MaxPreps.
MaxPreps is pleased to announce that the
Dorman (Roebuck, S.C.) Cavaliers have officially been named to the 12th Annual MaxPrepsTour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its seventh year honoring volleyball.
This is one of the most prestigious team awards in all of high school sports and it is an exclusive honor reserved for the top 100 teams nationwide. In order to be eligible, a team must win a state championship and be highly ranked in the
MaxPreps National Rankings. For volleyball, only 10 of the country's best are invited and with nearly 20,000 competing varsity teams. This puts the Cavaliers ahead of 99.9 percent of their opponents!
Longtime head coach Paula Kirkland lead the Dorman Cavaliers to the
SCHSL Class AAAAA state final 3-0 win (25-20, 25-12, 25-23) over the Wando Warriors on Saturday, Nov. 12 for her 12th state championship. This marked the team's first state title since 2009 and first in the newly formed Class AAAAA, which is the state's largest classification.
Last year's 2015 state final loss against Wando left a bitter taste in Dorman's mouth, and the team used that extra motivation as they avenged the loss with a mid-November, regular season win. To top that off, the Cavaliers earned four wins in the Class AAAA state tournament to set up a state final rematch for an even sweeter revenge.
At the end of the season (46-2), the Cavaliers finished highly ranked in the MaxPreps rankings —
No.1 in Class AAAAA,
No.1 in the state,
No.12 in the Xcellent 25 and
No.13 in the nation.
These incredible season achievements have earned the Dorman Cavaliers an invitation to the 12th Annual Tour of Champions.
