Baseball Recap: New Braunfels Thunder Extends Winning Streak to Five

New Braunfels Thunder had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. Everything went their way against the Founders Classical Academy Hoplites as they made off with a 14-1 win. Considering the Homeschool have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Immanuel Fuentes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payce Taylor, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Paxton Lerma, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

New Braunfels Thunder was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

New Braunfels Thunder pushed their record up to 13-6-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Founders Classical Academy, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. New Braunfels Thunder will square off against rival St. Stephen's Episcopal at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Founders Classical Academy is set to face off against their familiar foe IDEA Ingram Hills at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
