Preview: Serrano Diamondbacks vs. Apple Valley Sun Devils
The Serrano Diamondbacks will head out on the road to face off against the Apple Valley Sun Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
After soaring to 35 points the game before, Serrano were a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 28-7 walloping at the hands of Hesperia. While losing is never fun, Serrano can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 301st, while Hesperia is ranked 125th).
JJ Kavanaugh put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Kavanaugh really tore up the turf during one magnificent 87-yard run.
Meanwhile, Apple Valley got themselves on the board against Burroughs on Friday, but Burroughs never followed suit. They blew past the Burros, posting a 56-0 win on the road. The result was nothing new for Apple Valley, who have now won three contests by 25 points or more so far this season.
Hesperia's win bumped their season record to 8-1 while Serrano's defeat dropped theirs to 4-5.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Serrano has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 176.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Apple Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 171.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Serrano was taken down by Apple Valley 50-0 in their previous matchup back in September of 2022. Can Serrano avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
