Baseball Recap: Harrison Comes Up Short

Harrison had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-21 to make it six. They came up short against the Meridian Mustangs, falling 9-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 back in April.

As for Meridian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

For Meridian's part, Brady Bowen made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts Bowen has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Meridian's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 6-11 when he doesn't).

In other pitching news, Robbie Edwards looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Eli Olmsted, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Garrett Bergman also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Harrison will challenge Chippewa Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Meridian, they will face off against Nouvel Catholic Central at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
