Softball Recap: Madera Wins Going Away Against Tehachapi

Madera had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Tehachapi on Friday. Madera blew past Tehachapi 9-0. The result was nothing new for the Coyotes, who have now won three games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Jayleen Gutknecht looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Savana Cortez and Brilynn Santiago did most of the damage at the plate: Cortez scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Santiago scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Cortez also brought in two RBI, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Malea Ricks, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Madera always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Madera is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. Tehachapi's defeat dropped their record down to 3-4.
