Baseball Game Preview: Providence Grove Patriots vs. Wheatmore Warriors

The Providence Grove Patriots will head out on the road to square off against the Wheatmore Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Providence Grove is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.

Things were looking good for Providence Grove after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 6-3 to Eastern Randolph.

Andrew Thomas made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played. Jackson Rhyne also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Wheatmore hadn't done well against Uwharrie Charter Academy recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Warriors never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since April 2nd.

Wheatmore's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-13. As for Providence Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-12.

Providence Grove skirted past Wheatmore 2-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
