Basketball Recap: Liberty's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Saturday

Liberty won the last time they faced Lake Buena Vista and things went their way on Saturday too. The Liberty Chargers walked away with a 61-49 victory over the Lake Buena Vista Vipers. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Vipers are ranked 333rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tijay Jones was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ixion Toro, who posted eight points and ten rebounds.

Several Vipers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Travis Ligene, who earned ten points along with seven assists and six boards. Another player making a difference was Alessandro Ferace, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 17 points.

The win made it two in a row for Liberty and bumps their season record up to 9-1. As for Lake Buena Vista, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-5.

Liberty will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against New Dimensions at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. New Dimensions knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matches -- so hopefully Liberty likes a good challenge. As for Lake Buena Vista, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 52-45 defeat against Booker on the 26th.
