Basketball Recap: Lovett Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Lovett faced off against Therrell on Saturday. The Lovett Lions fell to the Therrell Panthers 56-51. The Lions just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.

Despite the loss, Lovett saw an underclassman step up: freshman Riley Gallagher went 7-for-13 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points. Gallagher is becoming a predictor of Lovett's success: when she posts at least 20 points the team is 6-1 (and 9-10 when she doesn't).

It was another big night for Azil Hazzard, who dropped a double-double with 33 points and 17 boards for Therrell. Hazzard's morning made it ten games in a row in which she has scored at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caliea Baisden, who posted 18 points.

Lovett's defeat dropped their record down to 15-11. As for Therrell, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 11-11 record this season.

As of now, neither Lovett nor Therrell have any future games scheduled.
