Basketball Recap: Southern Columbia Area's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Saturday

Southern Columbia Area won the last time they faced Hughesville and things went their way on Saturday too. The Southern Columbia Area Tigers greeted the New Year with with a 65-51 win over the Hughesville Spartans. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while the Spartans are ranked 631st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The victory got Southern Columbia Area back to even at 4-4. As for Hughesville, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Columbia Area will venture away from home to challenge Central Columbia at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Central Columbia will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Southern Columbia Area surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hughesville, they will face off against Neumann Regional Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Neumann Regional Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups.
