The Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Ravens will head out on the road to face off against the Mohonasen Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Cohoes just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 13-3.
Alex Halwick was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Haydn Sorensen was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Mohonasen's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Troy on Wednesday. The Warriors never let Voorheesville get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Blackbirds: they've now won six in a row.
The result came thanks to Nic Quinlivan's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Mohonasen is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Shea Moore was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Mohonasen's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mohonasen struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk was able to grind out a solid victory over Mohonasen when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 8-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Ravens since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
