Basketball Preview: Meadville Bulldogs vs. Erie Royals
Meadville is 0-10 against the Royals since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Meadville Bulldogs will look to defend their home court against the Erie Royals at 7:15 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Meadville comes in on three and the Royals on five.
A well-balanced attack led Meadville over the Tigers in every quarter on their way to victory on Thursday. Meadville took down the Tigers 61-47.
Meadville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lucas Luteran out in front who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Luteran is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. Tykie Butler was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven assists.
Meanwhile, even though General McLane scored an imposing 57 points on Friday, Erie still came out on top. Erie snuck past the Lancers with a 62-57 victory. Given Erie's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Lancers are ranked 318th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meadville now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Erie, they pushed their record up to 12-4 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Meadville came up short against the Royals in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 75-66. Can Meadville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
