Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Marion's Eighth in Last Ten Outings

Marion won the last time they faced Kingstree and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Marion Swamp Foxes walked away with a 61-50 victory over the Kingstree Blazers. Given the Swamp Foxes' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Blazers are ranked 256th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Charles White Jr was a one-man wrecking crew for Marion as he went 6 for 13 to rack up 15 points and four steals. Tahj Lathon was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points and three steals.

Marion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Kingstree still got an impressive performance from Mal'Aki Matthews, who posted 20 points. That was a full 40% of Kingstree's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points.

Marion is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.9 points over those games. As for Kingstree, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-18.

Marion has already played their next contest (against Manning), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Kingstree, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-31 defeat against Mullins on the 7th.
